6 Mexico Destinations for the Perfect Cinco de Mayo Vacation

Cinco de Mayo is an annual celebration held on May 5th which commemorates the victory of Mexico over the Second French Empire at the Battle of Puebla in 1862. This significant moment in Mexico’s history has transformed into a favorite holiday for many who love to celebrate with Mexican food and beverages.

There are some, however, who might want to up their Cinco de Mayo celebrations, and what better way than with a Mexico vacation? Here are a few of our favorite destinations to make for the ideal Cinco de Mayo vacation:

Riviera Maya

The Riviera Maya is a stretch of the eastern coastline in Mexico on the Caribbean Sea. Considered one of the most popular vacation spots in the country, the Riviera Maya is known wildly for its impressive resort options, fine dining, miles of beaches, multiple historic Mayan sites, and is home to one of the world’s largest underwater cave systems. Around every turn, you’ll appreciate all of the beauty that Riviera Maya has to offer.

Los Cabos

Located on the southern tip of Mexico’s Baja California peninsula on the west coast, Los Cabos is another fan-favorite destination for vacationing. Not only is Los Cabos known for its beautiful beaches, but it is also loved for its water activities, outdoor restaurants, bars, five-star spas, top-ranked golf courses, and so much more. One of Cabos’ most well-known sites is El Arco, a stunning arched rock formation that was carved by the nature of the sea.

Acapulco

Acapulco is found on Mexico’s west coast and has long been a preferred destination for vacationers who love the beach, nightlife, and great golf courses. During your stay, you should be sure to check out the La Quebrada Cliffs where daring cliff divers plunge into the water, Zocalo where you’ll find restaurants, cafes, and even a few shops, as well as Laguna de Tres Palos, a lagoon where boat tours are available to see the Acapulco from a different angle.

Puerto Vallarta

Also located on Mexico’s west coast is beloved Puerto Vallarta. This resort town situated in Jalisco state is often praised for its immaculate beaches, water sports, and dynamic nightlife. Puerto Vallarta is a great destination for whale watching, free entertainment at the Los Arcos Amphitheater, and so much more. We highly suggest visiting Islas Marietas National Park to see the area’s abundant wildlife and Old Town where there’s a variety of restaurants and bars.

Nuevo Vallarta

For anyone looking for a quieter vacation spot while still being in proximity to all of the fun, Nuevo Vallarta offers the best of both worlds. Nuevo Vallarta is located just north of Puerto Vallarta and offers the golden beaches of Banderas Bay, plenty of outdoor recreation, and plenty of water activities. Being a short drive from Puerto Vallarta means you can enjoy the hustle and bustle of the lively city before retreating to your oasis in Nuevo Vallarta at the end of the day.

Puerto Penasco

Positioned on Mexico’s northwest coastline, Puerto Penasco is well-known as a fishing and resort city. This sleepy town is the perfect place for a relaxing vacation with sandy beaches, seafood markets, and much more. Be sure to visit El Pinacate Biosphere and Gran Desierto de Altar Reserve, snorkel in the Sea of Cortez, head out on a sunset cruise, and spend time exploring the restaurants and shops at the Malecon.
